The difference between Republicans and Democrats

I'm not sure why this suddenly came to me tonight, but here it is:

Republicans make rules for other people.
Democrats make rules for everyone.
Comments:
close. Republicans believe people are smart enough to take care of themselves and Democrats think that people are basically unable to take care of themselves so the governemt has to take care of them, with tax money of course

As a former Republican, I can relate to that line of thinking.

All of us, of every political persuasion, have a responsibility to do our very best to "pull our weight" and more, in our society.

I should think that even the most liberal among us could agree with that basic premise. And nobody likes the idea people "slacking off", not even trying to pull their own weight, and essentially taking advantage of those who do.

But... and here's where my liberal side comes out, in a civilized society, those of us who are more able to flourish have a responsibility to help those who struggle. We should be able to extend to our fellow citizens a minimum level of quality of life and dignity.

There's no denying that identifying and then dealing with the slackers is a problem..
